The story regarding Brian Hoyle and his plans for building a West Maui hospital (The Maui News, Oct. 2) was interesting and informative. Mr. Hoyle sounds like a bright and savvy businessman who understands that planning our future health care resources is neither simple nor solitary.
I was impressed with what he had to say, but I was even more impressed with what he did not say. He did not promote his project by disparaging our existing hospital and, by association, the people that have dedicated themselves to caring for our people. He did not attempt to vilify our elected officials, particularly Roz Baker, who has earned the respect of many in the health care community for her extensive knowledge, balanced approach and hard work over the years. He did not feel the need to portray Wes Lo, another unsung hero, as part of the Axis of Evil. He did not attack or try to assassinate the character of anyone with whom he did not agree. Last but not least, he did not portray his project as a free lunch or no cost to anyone's fantasy.
Consequently, he avoided severely insulting our intelligence. How refreshing. Thank you, Mr. Hoyle, I wish you luck.
