Split allegiances

Steve and Lori Zeller were perhaps the most conflicted fans at Wednesday's EA Sports Maui Invitational championship game at the Lahaina Civic Center.

The parents of Luke Zeller, a 6-foot-11 senior forward at Notre Dame, and Tyler Zeller, a 7-0 freshman at North Carolina, both wore blue shirts split down the middle.

The shirts said ''Notre Dame'' on the navy-blue side and ''North Carolina'' on the baby-blue side.

Lori Zeller played basketball and softball at Coe College in Iowa.

Luke Zeller finished with seven points for the Fighting Irish, who lost 102-87, while Tyler Zeller watched from the Tar Heels' bench with a cast on his left wrist, which was broken in a game last week.

The teams also share the Hansbrough brothers - Tyler of North Carolina and Ben of Notre Dame. Tyler scored 34 points for the Tar Heels on Wednesday. Ben Hansbrough is sitting out this season after transferring from Mississippi State.

Seen in the stands

Among the notable names in attendance Wednesday were Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino, a 1999 Saint Anthony High School graduate, and Kanekoa Texeira of Wailuku, a pitcher in the New York Yankees organization.

Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares was also on hand, and Gov. Linda Lingle was part of the trophy presentation.

Keith Amemiya, the executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, was in attendance as well - he has been a regular on Maui recently, attending the Baldwin-Leilehua state football playoff game at War Memorial Stadium on Friday and then playing in Victorino's charity golf tournament Saturday at Makena.

Tavares attended the press conference following Indiana's win over Chaminade in the seventh-place game.

Double-digit wins

The 15-point margin in the final broke the tournament record for games decided by double digits. Ten of the 12 contests finished with double-digit margins, breaking the previous record of nine set in 1999 and matched in 2001 and 2004.

Quotable

''I love coming here three wins and I feel good, and I'm going to Longhi's tonight and have a great meal and I'm going frickin' parasailing or something crazy tomorrow and have a good time.''

-North Carolina coach Roy Williams
