HANA - Beginning Monday, the roadway at the Paihi Bridge near Koali will be periodically closed for up to two hours for the construction of a new Paihi Bridge.
Work is scheduled to be performed from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The bridge is on Hana Highway, or Route 360, between Hana and Kipahulu. Road closures will be at mile post markers 45 and 46.
Global Specialty Contractors from Oahu is replacing the historic stone and concrete bridge that was deemed unsafe as a result of damage from two earthquakes in the channel between East Maui and the Big Island on Oct. 15, 2006.
A temporary bridge was installed in December 2006.
