Taekwondo action in Lahaina

FIRST PHOTO: Miles Kiffmann (red) of Kiffmann Taekwondo takes on India's Amit Ahlawat during the Maui Open Taekwondo Championship on Saturday at the Lahaina Civic Center. The tournament featured nearly 200 athletes from Canada, India, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, the Philippines and the United States. All Maui competitors in the event were from Kiffmann Taekwondo. Among Kiffmann winners were Jamal Jones, who defeated Rene Voglar in the junior flyweight final; Po'ai Keahi, who defeated Canada's Kaitlyn McLaughlin in the junior welterweight final; Miles Kiffmann, who defeated Ahlawat in the men's finweight final; and Alicia Schmidthans, who defeated U.S. national champion Constance Young of Oahu in the junior flyweight final. The next meet for Kiffmann Taekwondo is the U.S. Open Championship in Las Vegas, Feb. 12-15.
