Michael Lawton and Mark Leuffgen of Rising Sun Solar install photovoltaic panels to the top of Kihei Lutheran Church on Monday morning.
Crews were busy on the project, which includes 42 solar panels that will cover 60 percent of the church's electricity needs.
Kihei Lutheran officials said they believed their's is the first church in the state with such an extensive PV project.
Pastor Dave Krueger said an associate member of the church from the Mainland donated $50,000 for the project, which will make the church more environmentally friendly.
