Trash pickup will continue despite new year closings
WAILUKU - Government offices will be closed Thursday for the New Year's Day holiday, but there will be regular curbside trash collection on Maui and Molokai.
On Lanai, residents will receive refuse service Friday.
The Waiehu Golf Course and all county pools will shut down on the holiday, with pools closing their doors at noon New Year's Eve.
The Central Maui Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to noon New Year's Day, and the Molokai Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. The Hana and Lanai landfills will be closed.
The county Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing satellite offices in Kihei, Lahaina and Pukalani will be closed on the holiday.
Post offices will be open for business on New Year's Eve, but some offices will shorten their lobby hours that day. Regular mail delivery Wednesday will not be affected.
Maui County post offices that will close early Wednesday are: Haiku, Kaunakakai, Kualapuu, Kula, Maunaloa, Pukalani and Puunene. Most will close at noon, although the Maunaloa and Pukalani offices will stay open until 1 p.m.
The Maui News offices will be closed at noon New Year's Eve, with the Circulation Department not answering phones after 11:45 a.m. The newspaper will be closed all day Thursday, reopening Friday with normal business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
