WAILUKU - Officers arrested two men who were implicated in a burglary Friday of an Iao Parkside apartment in Wailuku, police said.

The suspects were identified as Travis Nishioka, 20, of Wailuku, and Kinslow Kekaha-Cayaban, 18, who has no local address.

The burglary occurred between 5 and 5:44 p.m., with a woman reporting that Kekaha-Cayaban had taken keys from her son, who is partially mentally challenged, and entered the apartment to steal property valued at $530, said Lt. John Jakubczak of the Criminal Investigation Division.

The stolen property included a Sony PlayStation 2 console, eight video games, a set of drill bits and a backpack.

The son reported being at Nishioka's house when Kekaha-Cayaban, who was also there, began patting down the victim and asking him if he had money, Jakubczak said. He said Kekaha-Cayaban reportedly took the victim's wallet and rummaged through it before taking the victim's keys.

The victim reported being intimidated by Kekaha-Cayaban and walking home with the suspect, followed by Nishioka.

At the residence, Kekaha-Cayaban went through the mother's belongings and took the backpack, filling it with property from the apartment, Jakubczak said. He said Nishioka also was at the apartment, according to the victim.

The victim said the two suspects left in Kekaha-Cayaban's car.

When Nishioka was arrested a couple of hours later, he denied entering the apartment and denied seeing Kekaha-Cayaban leave the apartment with a backpack, Jakubczak said. He said officers reported that Nishioka was acting suspiciously before a small plastic packet containing suspected drugs fell from him.

Kekaha-Cayaban was arrested later when he was found at a home on Lipo Place in Wailuku. He claimed a camouflage backpack he had belonged to him, Jakubczak said. After Kekaha-Cayaban gave police permission to search the backpack, officers recovered a metal key ring belonging to the victim, a glass smoking pipe containing crystal methamphetamine, a plastic bag containing crystal methamphetamine and paraphernalia, Jakubczak said. He said marijuana was recovered from a vehicle.

Kekaha-Cayaban told police the pipe and ice weren't his, but he was holding it for a friend. Kekaha-Cayaban said the marijuana also wasn't his, but he had found it, Jakubczak said.

Kekaha-Cayaban reported that the victim had voluntarily turned over the keys and denied taking anything from the victim, Jakubczak said.

Kekaha-Cayaban was being held in lieu of $10,100 bail. He was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, two counts each of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.

Bail for Nishioka was set at $4,000 on charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.
