Warriors continue perfect start at MIL regatta No. 2

KIHEI - For the second straight week, Kamehameha Schools Maui swept all three varsity races, including a close win in the girls race during Maui Interscholastic League regatta No. 2 on Saturday at Ka Lae Pohaku.

The Warriors' crew of Ashley Shaffer, Kara Frampton, Diondra Gomes, Arial Kahahane, Keely Rivera and Alena Tihada won the girls race in 4 minutes, 36.26 seconds, edging King Kekaulike by 0.22 seconds.

Baldwin finished third in 4:40.01.

Kamehameha Maui also collected a close win in the mixed division. Shaffer, Gomes and Tihada teamed with Levi Alameida, Eathan Cabatingan and Preston Tavares to win the race in 4:07.28.

The Warriors edged Lahainaluna (4:08.52) by just over a second. Na Alii placed third in 4:17.95.

In the boys race, Alameida, Cabatingan, Tavares, Devyn Tavares, Israel Gregory and Travis Motooka finished more than nine seconds ahead of second-place King Kekaulike.

The Warriors finished in 3:51.83, with Na Alii crossing at 4:01.45. Molokai finished third in 4:08.17.

The next MIL regatta will be held next Saturday at Ka Lae Pohaku.
