"Unlike many people, I don't blame the government or the teachers for students' poor performance. While the schools certainly aren't perfect, most problems we face in education aren't the teachers' fault. Rather, I feel students are apathetic about school. Therefore, I would change the culture of schools by whatever means available (such as more interesting elementary or middle schools) to encourage students to apply themselves and reward them for doing so."
The students in this weekly feature are selected by officials at their respective high schools. "Student Spotlight" recognizes students of good character who are involved in school or community activities such as athletics, clubs, student government and volunteer work.
