WAILUKU - Beyond the Rainbow Foundation has given $3,000 to Imua Family Services for Camp Imua.
Camp Imua is an annual weeklong overnight recreational camp for 50 Maui County school-aged children with developmental disabilities and special needs. This year's program will be June 7-11 at Camp Maluhia.
Activities include horseback riding, swimming, helicopter rides, kayaking and a talent show, all made possible because of about 120 volunteers each year. Almost half of them are teens.
"Camp Imua is an outstanding example of how youth in Maui can develop skills such as commitment, responsibility and leadership through their volunteer efforts," said Deborah Katz, president of Beyond the Rainbow Foundation. "This is certainly a win-win opportunity that not only helps children who may struggle to accomplish basic tasks, but also provides valuable life lessons to the youth volunteers."
Camp Imua is possible because of financial contributions, volunteerism and donations of in-kind goods and services from local families, businesses, schools and individuals.

Imua Family Services helps children with special needs and their families to achieve their full potential through support, education, prevention and treatment.
Each year, it serves more than 2,400 individuals through the Infant and Child Development Program, Early Childhood Development Program, Newborn Hearing Screening and Camp Imua.
Beyond the Rainbow Foundation's mission is to develop fund-raising opportunities to support programs and resources that focus on the needs of Maui's youths.
