KIHEI - A "Parade of Ponds" self-guided tour of water-feature landscaping in Kihei will be held Saturday as a fundraiser for South Maui Sustainability.
Organized by Hawaiian Waterfalls owner Curt Bennett, it will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tickets cost $10 and will be sold beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 1536 Halama St. (on the makai side of South Kihei Road) or 3500-A Kehala Drive (at the intersection with Mikioi Place). Cash or checks will be accepted. Checks will be written to "Maui Tomorrow-SMS." Children 15 and younger may attend for free.
Participants will receive a map showing 10 projects that were built by Hawaiian Waterfalls using sustainability practices. They include ponds, streams and waterfalls.
"A properly designed water feature can use less water than other plantings and actually be more sustainable," Bennett said.
"I am just one small vendor trying to help out a good cause," he said, "but I'm sure many others can get creative about ways to support South Maui Sustainability in doing their great work in the community."
South Maui Sustainability is working to bring its community together around issues of sustainability. Maui Tomorrow serves as its financial umbrella.
"South Maui Sustainability wishes to thank Hawaiian Waterfalls and the owners of the homes that have graciously agreed to allow people to visit their properties," said Maury King, a co-founder of the group.
