Instead of crowning a single Miss Maui, six new queens were chosen Saturday night at the Miss Maui Pageant in Lahaina. Almost 700 people attended the festive competition at Maui Theatre, home of “ ‘Ulalena.” Twenty-four young women demonstrated their talents before 21 judges who selected Marissa Petsas (from left) Miss ‘Ulalena 2009; Erika Daniels, Miss Lokelani 2009; Cierra Rauch, Miss Maui 2009; Ashley Jardine, Miss Valley Isle 2009; Natasha Thorell, Miss Silversword 2009; and Malia Avila, Miss Haleakala 2009. Iolani Chun and Doug De Cambra have been the executive directors of the event for the past two years. All six of the new queens will represent the Valley Isle in the Miss Hawaii Pageant in July.
