KAANAPALI -- A woman who died Thursday afternoon in a fall from the 10th-floor balcony of a Kaanapali hotel was identified today as Laurie Brunner-Chapple, 52, of California.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which was reported at 4:16 p.m. at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa when hotel management called police, said Lt. Chad Viela of the Lahaina Criminal Investigation Division. He said the woman's husband was in the hotel room and saw her go over the balcony. The husband went to check on the woman, who landed on the roofline of an area near landscaping by a swimming pool, Viela said.

The husband and wife were staying at the hotel.

"No foul play has been determined at this time," Viela said. "However, investigation is still ongoing as to whether the fall was accidental or self-induced."

An autopsy was scheduled today.
