FIRST PHOTO: Ladder Capt. Amos Lonokailua-Hewett is assisted by Capt. Cornelio Bancaco (right) as he performs a blessing over the new Ka Malu Ulu o Lele firetruck Tuesday at the Lahaina Fire Station. The Engine 3 truck, costing $578,454, and a Kalanipa'a air-and-light truck, costing $343,138, were blessed during the ceremony.

SECOND PHOTO: Firefighter and training officer Elvin Kamoku describes interior features of Ka Malu Ulu o Lele, the new Engine 3 truck, Tuesday.

THIRD PHOTO: Robert Sorensen, vice president of manufacturer SVI, demonstrates the command light on the Fire Department's new Kalanipa'a air-and-light truck Tuesday. The Engine 3 truck, equipped with a compressed air foam system to create a foam blanket and use less water to extinguish fires, will be stationed in Lahaina and allow firefighters to gain access to off-road fires and emergencies. The air-and-light truck will serve the entire county, allowing firefighters to refill self-contained breathing apparatus air tanks at fire scenes and providing a light source and generator. The Engine 3 truck, which replaces a 1990 model pumper now being used as a relief apparatus, was bought with county funds. The air-and-light truck was bought with county funds and Homeland Security grant funds.
