LAHAINA - A total of $16,000 was given to four Maui nonprofits that work with children.

The presentations were made at a Beyond the Rainbow Foundation reception Feb. 15 event at the Rusty Harpoon.

The foundation gave:

$7,000 to the Lahaina Complex After School Tutoring Program.

$5,000 to The Maui Farm.

$3,000 to Imua Family Services.

$1,000 to A Keiki's Dream.

The money was raised at the Aloha Team Classic golf tournament Oct. 21-24 at the King Kamehameha, Kahili, Royal Kaanapali and Kapalua Plantation courses.

The event raised $20,000, and a donation with the rest of the money will be announced soon, said Stuart Katz, Aloha Team Classic chairman.

LPGA touring professional Angela Jerman participated in the "Play With the Pro" event and will wear the Aloha Team Classic logo while playing on tour. She also will try to attract her friends on tour to join the next event to be held Oct. 18-21.

Visitors nationwide are invited to play in the three-day golf tourney with breakfast, lunch and evening events planned.

Prospective tournament volunteers and organizations that work with youths may contact the foundation at 665-5815.

The tourney has raised nearly $45,000 during its first three years, with funds distributed to organizations supporting Maui youth.
