WAILUKU - Imua Family Services has received an $8,450 grant from the Hawaii Children's Trust Fund for a home-visiting workshop to be held in September.

"The Art and Practice of Home Visiting" is a daylong training event for professionals and paraprofessionals who work with families of children from birth to age 6. Participants will learn culturally sensitive intervention techniques for helping children and their families, and how to assist in healthful child-development activities.

Shirley N. Sparks, co-author of "The Art and Practice of Home Visiting" and an adjunct faculty member at Santa Clara University, will be the presenter.

The workshop is a collaboration among Imua, Maui Community College's Early Childhood Education Department and PATCH (Parents Attentive to Children).

The Hawaii Children's Trust Fund is dedicated to promoting community family-strengthening programs to ensure Hawaii children develop into healthy, productive and caring individuals.

Imua provides early-childhood-development services to more than 2,500 children and their family members each year on Maui and Lanai.
