Sampling the fruits of their labor

April 10, 2009
The Maui News

Kihei Elementary School 2nd-graders from Alana Kaopuiki's science class picked lettuce and beans that were planted on the school's campus in February. The class has about 20 students.

"It was incredible because when we plant our garden, we plant vegetables and we get stronger," Kosuga said. The keiki later had a chance to sample their produce with ranch dressing.

Students worked with volunteers from South Maui Sustainability, a group that has partnered with

other schools on similar programs.
