Happy Valley resident Eddie Ka‘iu displays a pair of flowers he picked in his aunty’s Waihee yard Tuesday afternoon. Ka‘iu and his wife, Mana, were waiting while a family member shopped at Takamiya Market. The bloom on the right is a magnolia, while the other flower appears to be an Ixora hookeri, which is native to Madagascar and was introduced to Hawaii from Tahiti in 1935.
