School for Adults to give diplomas

WAILUKU - The Maui Community School for Adults will hold its 42nd commencement exercises at 6 p.m. May 27 in the Baldwin High School Auditorium.

More than 213 students have completed requirements for a high school diploma through the General Educational Development and the Competency Based High School Diploma programs.

The graduation guest speaker will be Mayor Charmaine Tavares. Student speakers will be Dabriel Gerard and Oanastasia Acevedo.

Presenting diplomas will be Gwen Ueoka, principal for Maui Community School for Adults; Maui Complex Superintendent Bruce Anderson; and Board of Education Neighbor Island Representative Mary Cochran of Maui.

Special awards will be presented to the highest scorer in the GED and the Competency Based High School Diploma programs.

Graduates attending the commencement have studied through a variety of programs to earn their diplomas. These programs are offered by Maui Community School for Adults, a program of the state Department of Education; Hui Malama Learning Center; Hawaii Job Corps; and Maui First-to-Work.
