Making over Boys and Girls Club

May 6, 2009
The Maui News

Kamaehu Kawa'a, 11, of Paukukalo uses a little muscle as he helps create an organic garden at the Boys and Girls Club in Paukukalo on Monday afternoon.

About 100 Maui residents and 70 from the Boston-based Commonwealth Financial Network took part in the project. In addition to the garden, crews helped remove graffiti from the gym with a fresh coat of paint. The garden will have fruits, vegetables, flowers and Hawaiian herbs.

Commonwealth Financial Network also donated $8,000 toward the project.

Volunteer Matthew Kailihou paints the garden fence while helping to beautify the area Monday afternoon.
