WAILUKU - An expert on the STAR Community Index that helps local governments assess sustainability and livability of communities will speak Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Maui Community College.
The appearance of Lynne Barker, program director of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, is sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, Hawaii Chapter, and the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui.
Barker manages the development and implementation of the STAR Index, which will try to provide cities and counties with a decision-making tool to effect positive economic, environmental and social change. For more information about the STAR Index, see Web site www.starcommunityindex.org.
The free gathering will be held in the Pilina Building in the Multipurpose Room.
The Sustainable Living Institute is committed to optimizing Maui's economy by helping people build skills that are compatible with the community's cultural choices and economic aspirations.
