Firefighters, Air One aid Molokai hunter’s rescue
KAHULUI - Firefighters on Molokai and the Air One crew on Maui assisted in the successful location and rescue Saturday of a Molokai hunter.
The 62-year-old man was reported lost around 10 a.m. Saturday in the forest above Kaunakakai, according to Battalion Chief Jeff Shaffer. The Air One crew spotted the man from the air nearly two hours later, with the hunter reporting breathing difficulties and the inability to walk or sit up.
Rescuers had to leave the scene temporarily to get a basket to carry the man out of the forest. He was flown to a nearby field where medics waited to assist and treat him, Shaffer said.
Information was not available Sunday on the condition of the man after his rescue.
