Up for the challenge at Barrio Fiesta

Crowds of people wait in line to enjoy some of the Filipino culinary treats available at the event.

The three-day event, which celebrates Filipino food and culture, continues at War Memorial Complex through today. It is an annual event.

Kapena Ho‘opai, 9, of Kahului puts his laundry skills to the test while competing in “Hang the Clothes” on Saturday afternoon at the annual Barrio Fiesta.

The game challenged the participants to hang the contents of a paper bag and then remove them as fast as they could.

Norma Arconado of Kahului takes on Rico San Agustin, also of Kahului, during a sungka tournament with Keanu Ho'opai and his brother, Kapena, 9, on Saturday morning.

Sungka is a Filipino game played with either shells or rocks.

Arconado went on to take first place in the adult division.
