Jinsei Mateaki, 5, of Makawao stretches out in the sun with his sister, Kana, 6, while taking a break from the activities in the water Tuesday morning at the Upcountry Pool in Pukalani.

The keiki spent the morning escaping the muggy temperatures.

They were joined at the facility by family members, including their mom, Kazuko, who said they all love to swim.

"We like to come all the time," she said.

Jared Mateaki gives his daughter, Mai, 2, a lift.

The facility is free to the public and open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except that it opens at 10 a.m. on Thursdays and 1 p.m. Sundays.

For Central Maui this week, the National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies with a chance of isolated or scattered showers, with some clouds during the evening.

Highs are expected to be in the low to mid-80s, with overnight lows in the 60s.
