The Maui News

KIHEI - Businessman Ray Ennis, co-founder of Stella Blues in Kihei, died on May 28 in Kihei. He was 60.

A scattering of ashes will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at "Secret Beach" on the north side of Poolenalena Beach in South Maui.

Later, at 8 p.m., Ennis will be remembered during a musical celebration at Stella Blues.

"Anyone who's been touched by Ray's life is welcome" to either event, said Cindy Eiting, director of catering at Stella Blues and Ennis' hanai daughter.

Ennis, a Maui Meadows resident, was born July 2, 1948, in Baltimore. In 1986, he and his wife, Janie, moved to Maui and opened the Maui Bagel on Dairy Road. He later sold that business and opened Stella Blues with his family in December 1991.

His community service included working with Hospice Maui.

In addition to his wife and hanai daughter, he is also survived by three children, Kindra Ennis, Kale Boverman and Shayla Ennis; his parents, Tom and Mary Jo Ennis; and two grandchildren.
