TECHNOLOGY EXPO SLATED FOR THURSDAY
KAHULUI - The sixth annual Maui Technology and Internet Expo will be presented Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel.

BAIL SET AT $6,000 IN HOME BURGLARY
LAHAINA - Bail was set at $6,000 for a 32-year-old man charged with burglarizing a Lahaina home Saturday, police said.
Gerald Ohashi Jr., who gave no local address, also was charged with assaulting a police officer who was hit by Ohashi as he tried to leave while being processed at the Lahaina Police Station following his arrest, said Capt. Charles Hirata, commander of the Lahaina Patrol District.
He said Ohashi was arrested at 1:15 p.m. when a resident in the 300 block of Front Street reported someone was in the residence without permission. A responding Lahaina patrol officer saw Ohashi leaving the residence through the back and arrested him, Hirata said.
He said the officer who was struck by Ohashi wasn't seriously injured.
Ohashi was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree assault on a police officer.

OFFICER STUNS MAN THREATENING SUICIDE
LAHAINA - Responding to a report that a man was threatening suicide, a Lahaina patrol officer deployed a Taser stun gun to stop the man, police said.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. Friday when a woman called police to report that her friend was threatening to kill himself, said Capt. Charles Hirata, commander of the Lahaina Patrol District.
He said the 53-year-old man, who was camping in a tent in brush area south of Kahoma Stream, was holding scissors to his throat. The officer approached the man and, when he made a movement, deployed the Taser, Hirata said.
He said the man dropped the scissors.
"The main thing is he didn't get seriously hurt," Hirata said.
The man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment and observation.

POLICE ARREST MAN WHO PUNCHED MANAGER
LAHAINA - A 47-year-old man was arrested for investigation of robbery after he allegedly punched a manager who confronted the suspected shoplifter outside a Lahaina store Sunday evening, police said.
The robbery was reported at about 7:30 p.m. after the suspect entered The Original Red Dirt Shirt Co. on Front Street, said Capt. Charles Hirata, commander of the Lahaina Patrol District. He said the suspect had left the store with 12 shirts valued at $288 when he was confronted outside by the store manager.
The suspect punched the manager, hitting him on the ear, before being tripped by the manager, who then held the suspect until police arrived, Hirata said.
After being arrested, the man was released pending further investigation of a second-degree robbery charge.
