Maui Film Festival is ready to roll

Projectionist Paul Burt assembles 35 mm movie "shorts" on one reel Tuesday afternoon at the Celestial Cinema while preparing for today's opening of the Maui Film Festival in Wailea.
The festival begins tonight with films being shown at four venues: the outdoor Celestial Cinema and SandDance Theater in Wailea, and the indoor Castle and McCoy theaters at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
Following festival tradition, opening night at the Celestial Cinema tonight will feature surf films.
The films start at 8 p.m., and children 12 and under will be admitted free.
All films at the SandDance Theater at the Four Seasons Resort end of Wailea Beach are free.
The festival runs through Sunday.
