HAPPY VALLEY - The Neighborhood Place of Wailuku has received a $16,500 grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for a conference next month to aid Native Hawaiian families.

The free Ho'ola Lahui Conference will be held July 11 at Kamehameha Schools Maui, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This conference will provide a venue that will aid and inform participants on traditional and nontraditional services that may assist Native Hawaiian families. Guest speakers are psychologist Kamana'opono Crabbe and author Kawika Tengan.

The conference "will create a stronger sense of rapport and teamwork" among Native Hawaiian community members and providers that service them, said conference coordinator Scott Seto of the Department of Human Services (DHS)/Maui Child Welfare Services.

The conference also will promote the need to support Native Hawaiian children in the state's foster care system.

To get involved, provide an informational resource table or for more information, contact Seto at 243-8638.
