NAPILI - A major supporter of Maui Preparatory Academy has reached the $1 million mark in his contributions thus far to the private school.
Tom Rosenquist, one of Maui Prep's founders, a parent, trustee and past board president, recently donated $125,000, bringing his total giving to the school to $1,075,818.
"What could possibly be more important than the education and development of our children?" Rosenquist asked. "What we have created at Maui Prep will provide a pathway to success for many in our community for years to come. It's a terrific feeling, to know that I'm helping to make that happen."
Rosenquist made his first gift to the school in December 2004, prior to the school's opening in the fall of 2005.
Maui Preparatory Academy Headmaster George Baker said: "Tom has been an extraordinary supporter of Maui Prep since the beginning. . . . We are truly fortunate to have him as a member of our Maui Prep Ohana."
Maui Preparatory Academy is the only independent, college preparatory day school for students in preschool through grade 12 in West Maui.
The school offers financial aid to qualifying families, with more than 35 percent of its students receiving assistance.
Maui Prep is accredited by the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Applications are still being accepted for the 2009-2010 school year.
