Advisory boards ordered restored
WAILUKU - Gov. Linda Lingle issued an executive order to re-establish the six temporary Neighbor Island advisory councils that help her administration identify issues of importance to each island, with a focus on clean energy initiatives.
Lingle last week invited residents to apply to serve as volunteers in her Council of Neighbor Island Advisors program. She is asking that people who already sit on an island advisory council reapply for their positions.
Maui, Lanai and Molokai each have advisory councils, which Lingle often uses to gauge interest in her administration's proposals.
The intent of the councils is to lend a voice to places outside of Oahu. The councils identify issues, budget priorities and foster discussion for east Hawaii, west Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kauai.
The council's meetings are open to the public and accept testimony.
Maui County residents who are interested in serving on an advisory council should submit a letter and resume by June 30 to Governor's Liaison George Kaya.
For more information, call Kaya at 243-5796 or e-mail him at mauigov@hawaii.gov. Molokai and Lanai residents should call the governor's office at (808) 586-0034 or e-mail charen.ching@hawaii. gov.
