Victorino in fifth place as All-Star voting winds down

ST. LOUIS - The Philadelphia Phillies' Shane Victorino, a 1999 St. Anthony High School graduate, was fifth among outfielders in a National League All-Star voting update announced Monday.

Two of the four players ahead of him are on the disabled list, but may be back in time for the July 14 game at Busch Stadium.

Victorino had 1,642,248 votes in balloting announced by Major League Baseball.

Philadelphia's Raul Ibanez was first with 2,970,139, followed by the Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun (2,654,061), New York Mets' Carlos Beltran (2,085,028) and Chicago Cubs' Alfonso Soriano (1,916,598).

Mike Cameron of the Brewers was sixth with 1,345,763.

Ibanez is on the DL with a strained groin, and Beltran with a bone bruise in his right knee. According to mlb.com, Ibanez could be back on Friday, and Beltran in early July.

Voting at stadiums has concluded, and online balloting for the starters will end at 5:59 p.m. HST on Thursday. The starters will be announced on Sunday.

Victorino is batting .296 (87-for-294) this season and is tied for ninth in the NL in hits. He has five home runs, 34 RBIs, 51 runs (tied for fourth in the NL) 12 stolen bases (10th) in 16 attempts, five triples (tied for second) and 19 doubles.

The Phillies were idle Monday.
