Inouye: Federal funding set for Kahului Airport, health clinics in county
WAILUKU - A project to install a new runway lighting system at Kahului Airport has received more than $533,000 in federal money while community health clinics in Maui County have been granted more than $2 million, according to U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye.
Money for the airport project came from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which also awarded $1.3 million to repair pavement at a Kona International Airport air cargo apron.
On Maui, clinics receiving federal funding were the Community Clinic of Maui, $530,455; Hana Community Health Center, $311,495; and Hui No Ke Ola Pono, $298,230. On Molokai, funding went to Na Puuwai Inc., $315,415; and Molokai Ohana Health Care, $304,740. The Lanai Women's Center, doing business as Lanai Community Health Center, was awarded $251,820.
The centers received Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program grants to support construction, repair and renovation of health center sites and fund the purchase of new equipment or health information technology systems.
