Celebrate Bastille Day with deals at Gerard’s in Lahaina

July 9, 2009
The Maui News

Calling all Francophiles - and those who simply love fine French foods.

Bastille Day will take Maui by storm Tuesday at Gerard's French Restaurant in the romantic Plantation Inn in Lahaina. It will be the place on the island to celebrate that European country's national holiday.

To make it even more consumer friendly, diners will get half off of their entrees all evening long. Dinner service is from 6 p.m. until closing.

Assorted Hamakua and Makawao mushrooms in puff pastry with fine herbs and delicate pieces of prosciutto ham make this a top-selling appetizer at Gerard’s.

From Gascony originally, Chef-owner Gerard Reversade is a classically trained chef who has propelled his popular restaurant to the "Top Food Rating" on Maui in the 2009 Zagat Hawaii Edition.

Fresh catch is always in demand at Gerard's and he pays a premium to local fishermen to get the best there is. One of his top preparations is roasted Hawaiian snapper with olive oil, star anise and a savory fennel fondue with tomato confit in an emulsion of orange and ginger.

Meat entrees range from confit of duck with sweet peas Paysanne, garlic petals and fried sage to the rack of lamb Persillade with mint and lemon-zest crust, potatoes au gratin and watercress flan.

With 24 hours notice, Gerard can also take you on a trip to his homeland with entrees such as veal Wellington, frogs legs and sweetbreads. Call Gerard's at 661-8939.
