Melvin Halona "Hona" Nakagawa Sr., 61, of Wailuku, died July 4, 2009, at Hilo Medical Center.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Borthwick Norman's Mortuary in Wailuku, with a service at 10 a.m. Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home in Hilo assisted with the arrangements.
Mr. Nakagawa was born Sept. 9, 1947, in Honolulu. He was a retired installation supervisor for Hawaiian Telcom.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Platiro Nakagawa; three sons, Christopher Keoni (Trina) Nakagawa, Melvin Halona "Hona Boy" (Alohi) Nakagawa Jr., Chadwick Ku'ikahi Tadao Nakagawa; a daughter, Tanya Marie (Pete) Exner; seven brothers, Charles Nakagawa, Rubuen "Alan" Nakagawa, Alvin Nakagawa, Calvin Nakagawa, Randy Nakagawa, Eugene Manuel and Leroy Manuel; four sisters, Paulette Kim, Charlien Nakagawa, Carol David-Sarchet and Rowena "LaLa" Adams; and nine grandchildren.
