HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. --- Napili's Granger Larsen was eliminated from the U.S. Open of Surfing on Friday after placing third in his round-of-24 heat, which included a standout performance by Kelly Slater.

Larsen posted a score of 7.83, far behind Slater's event-high 18.80. Spain's Aritz Aramburu had a 13.84 to also advance out of the heat.

Still in contention for a title is Haiku's Kai Barger, who previously advanced to the semifinals of the junior men division. The second semifinal heat, which includes Oahu's Tonino Benson, was finalized Friday.
