Say — ‘cheese please,’ at Stella Blues Cafe in Kihei

July 30, 2009
The Maui News

Stella Blues Cafe in Kihei is adding to its already popular happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. daily with some new cheese plates. They've been put together with the help of neighbor, Ann Tuomela, of Who Cut The Cheese Store.

The Beer Drinker's Delight and the Nibbles for Wine Sippers both cost $12 each and are a perfect snack for two.

The Beer Drinker's Delight features three cheeses such as Cotswold that's like a twice-baked potato, Old Quebec Super Sharp Cheddar aged four to five years, and Black Mountain made of cow's milk from Wales. The plate also includes salami and Greek olives for munching.

The Nibbles for Wine Sippers showcases Fromage d' Affinois, a creamy brie from France; Chaubier, a goat and cow's milk mixture also from France; and a Maytag Blue from Iowa. Dried fruits and nuts add texture and crunch.

The plates are available from lunch through dinner. But other happy hour specials include shrimp cocktail, housemade hummus, crisp and meaty turkey wings and juicy burgers and fries.

"Drink-wise during happy hour, we offer Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay and La Crema pinot noir, both high end, for $8," says partner Cindy Eiting. "House wines are $4 and domestic beers go for $2. While happy hour runs daily, we present live music Monday through Friday."
