UPCOMING EVENTS

BASKETBALL

Sunday---The deadline to register for the Maui Youth Basketball League fall season is Sunday. The league is open to boys and girls born from 1994 to 2003, and games are scheduled for Sunday afternoons in Central Maui, from Sept. 6 to Nov. 1. The entry fee is $20 per player. Applications are available at the County Permits Office at War Memorial, Maui Sporting Goods and The Sports Authority. Applications can also be requested via e-mail at cssuzuki@hawaiiantel.net. Friday---National Junior Basketball Maui Upcountry Hoops is sponsoring the Jason Wright Basketball Clinic on Friday. The clinic, open to children in grades 2-12, will be at the King Kekaulike High School gym from 6 to 9 p.m. The registration fee is $20. Aug. 14-16---The Kalakaua Basketball Clinic is scheduled for Aug. 14-16 at the Erdman Athletic Center. The clinic, open to players of all positions in grades 7-12, offers instruction by veteran coach Dennis Agena and Punahou coaches Mike Taylor and Myles Akamine. Sessions are 4-8 p.m. on Aug. 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 16. The fee is $35. Contact: www.seaburyhall.org/kalakauaclinic.

Saturday---The 17th annual Maui County Bar Association Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday at The Dunes at Maui Lani. The event is held in the memory of Arthur T. Ueoka, a former judge and prosecutor. All proceeds from the event are awarded as scholarships to individuals with strong Maui ties who are studying law. Aug. 9---The 27th annual Baldwin Basketball Backers benefit golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 9 at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course. Entry forms for the two-person scramble are available at most Maui pro shops. The event will offer prizes and an awards luncheon. Contact: 877-7294.

Aug. 28---The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association's 13th annual Excellence in Education golf tournament is scheduled for 7 a.m. on Aug. 28 at Makena Golf Course. The event raises funds for the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism and scholarships for Maui Community College students in culinary and business and hospitality programs. Sept. 12---The seventh annual Maui Cadillac Invitational is scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Makena Golf Course. Check-in for the tournament, which benefits the Maui office of the National Kidney Foundation, starts at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start is scheduled for 10:30. The winning foursome qualifies for the four-day national finals at TPC Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. A kickoff party and silent auction will be held Sept. 11 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club. Oct. 19-21---The Aloha Team Classic golf tournament, a benefit for the Beyond the Rainbow Foundation, is scheduled for Oct. 19-21. The first round of the two-person event will be at a course to be determined, the second at the Kapalua Bay Course and the third at the Plantation Course. A reception is scheduled for Oct. 18 and a clinic and skills competition for Oct. 19. Both of those days' events are to include LPGA players, including Angela Jerman, a former Curtis Cup team member. The fee is $1,500 per player, and $425 per nonplayer, which also pays for breakfast and lunch Oct. 19-21 and dinner on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21, as well as gifts, entry into daily contests and the chance to win hole-in-one prizes.
