* Business classes. The County of Maui Office of Economic Development will present the following free "Brown Bag" workshops at the Maui County Business Resource Center in Maui Mall. Reserve a space by calling 873-8247.

Leslie Mullens will teach "Going for the Goal!" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will learn to create a well-defined, easily explained plan responsive to today's shifting economy.

Bob Sommers will teach "Article Marketing for Internet Success" from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Learn to write an article that publishers will publish and readers will read and how to easily get your article distributed onto thousands of Web sites, blogs and newsletters.

* Maui Community College classes. MCC's VITEC program offers courses in adult education on the Kahului campus. To register or obtain details, call 984-3231.

Alan Jahns will teach "French Wines: No More Freedom Fries!" from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Cost is $99.

Rebekah S. Merrifield will teach "Bellydancing for Beginners with Beka" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning this week to Sept. 9. Cost is $99.

Saudina Torres will teach "Conversational Spanish Level I (13+)" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning this week to Sept. 10. Cost is $129.

Kurt Miyajima will teach "Introduction to Bagua" from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays, beginning this week to Aug. 29. Cost is $49.

Nadine Ramelb will teach "Eat, Paint and Relax" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $54.

Raymond Mains will teach "Intermediate Photography with Ray Mains" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, beginning this week to Aug. 22.

* Chinese classes. Beginning Chinese language classes will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, beginning this week, in Makawao. Cost is $20 per hour. * Watercolor classes. Barbara Steinberg will teach a beginning/intermediate art class titled "Tropical Watercolor Painting" from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 12 to Sept. 16 at Kalama Heights Retirement Residence in Kihei. * Art classes. Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao will offer an eight-week keiki pottery class for ages 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Younger students will learn hand building while older students explore wheel throwing. Cost is $155 for Hui members or $194 for nonmembers, plus $32 for supplies. Visiting artist Stephen Freedman will teach "Production Techniques for Ceramic Artists" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15. Cost is $165 for Hui members or $198 for nonmembers, plus $65 for supplies. In addition, ARTcamp for ages 5 to 12 will be offered throughout the summer. * Personal development seminars. Bruce Conching will present a series of personal development seminars designed to inspire and teach individuals to live in congruence. Session 1 "Discovery Weekend" will be from Aug. 14 to 16 and Aug. 28 to 30; session 2 "The Breakthrough Weekend" will be from Sept. 4 to 6; session 3 "Unlimited Possibilities" will be from Oct. 9 to 11. Times are from 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. The seminars are offered as a series of three weekend sessions, designed as stepping blocks to each other. Commitment to all three weekends is not a requirement. The central Maui location of these seminars will be announced. Cost is $300 for the first session; $350 for the second and third session, plus tax. Package options are also available. * Evening culinary classes. In an effort to respond to record campus enrollment and to make the culinary program more accessible to all prospective students, Maui Culinary Academy at Maui Community College will offer its basic skills classes of the highly acclaimed culinary program in the evening. What is typically a daytime program, will now be offered from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Classes range from Short Order Cookery, Pantry, Fine Dining and Pastry Arts. * Hui Malama classes. Hui Malama Learning Center in Wailuku is currently accepting students for the 2009-2010 school year. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays, beginning Aug. 10. Programs will include Middle School, High School, and GED Test Preparation. Hui Malama encourages students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers while offering the resources to explore secondary educational, vocational and employment opportunities.
