Dolphins beached but OK

August 11, 2009

The Pacific Whale Foundation's 2009 Wild Dolphin Sand Sculpture Contest was held Saturday at Keawakapu Beach.

Tony Pushckor, sister-in-law Sandie Alexander, Sky Pushckor and Ben and Havanna Alexander of Kihei were judged to have created the Most Realistic Dolphin.

The winners for Best Overall Dolphin were Barry, Lori, Brigit and Amby Iles of Silverdale, Wash.

The Best Kids' Entry (12 and under) was by 11-year-old Jillian Ranks of Kihei.

The Most Creative Dolphin was by Drayton, Austin and Dominic Ruppenthal and Peyton and Ginger Thomas of Wailea.

Funniest was made by Ryan, Gianna and Chris Danovich of Kihei.

Winners got dolphin-themed gifts from PWF's Ocean Store, and overall winners received a gift certificate for four passes for a Wild Dolphin Encounter Cruise.
