* Healthy cooking class. Joy's Place will offer a class titled "Homegrown for Dinner: Healthy Preparations for Locally Caught Fish and Maui Vegetables" at 5:30 tonight at the restaurant, 1993 S. Kihei Road. Cost is $45 and includes samples and recipes. Advance registration is required by visiting Joy's Place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or by calling 385-7779.

* 'Ohana Connection. Karen McGinnis will present "Trying Something New at Mid-life!" during 'Ohana Connection at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hale Maha'olu, Elima, 11 Mahaolu St. in Kahului. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Donations accepted. Event includes a continental breakfast, drink and networking opportunities. For details, call 871-1110.

* Ki-aikido classes. Maui Ki-Aikido will hold an introductory ki-aikido course for adults and teens from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays in September at the Shunshinkan Dojo, 194 S. Market St. in Wailuku. Cost is $40 and includes a manual. Cost may be applied to the initiation fee if the participant joins Maui Ki-Aikido to continue training at the end of the four-week course. * Fitness and wellness studio opening. ON CORE Studio will hold its grand opening celebration from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at its studio, 3617 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao. Gerry Mooney will teach "Talk Story With Your Camera" from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 and 1 to 4 p.m. Sept.12. Cost is $79.

Kurt Miyajima will teach "Taoist Longevity Breathing" from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 17. Cost is $69.

Kurt Miyajima will teach "Tai Chi Ruler for Arthritis" from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 17. Cost is $49.

Evelina Bondar will teach "Pilates Plus Kegels" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Cost is 29.

Chan Ly will teach "Introduction to Tennis" from 5 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 to 25. Cost is $69.

* Business classes. The County of Maui Office of Economic Development will hold the following free "Brown Bag" workshops at the Maui County Business Resource Center in Maui Mall. For details, call 873-8247.

Teresa "Cheech" Shurilla and Tracy Edelhertz will teach "Beat the Heat, Cool Cooking with Cool Chefs" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8. Spend time networking with other women in business and participate in demonstrations of summer fare.

Susie Thieman will teach "The ABC's of a Business Plan" from noon to 1 p.m. Spet. 10. Participants will receive an outline of the business plan taught by MEO Core Four Business Plan course.
