WAILUKU - Imua Family Services will distribute 20 ERGObaby Carriers to families of children with special needs this year through a partnership with the manufacturer.
"The use of one of these ergonomically correct baby carriers will enhance the life of a special needs child and give their parent a tool that will help promote bonding and ease stress, allowing them to complete activities that would be difficult without the ERGObaby Carrier," said Christi Masters, program director for Imua Family Services.
ERGObaby is a Maui company founded in 2003 by Karin Frost because she wanted a baby carrier that was ergonomically correct for her and her child, and because "I was convinced that keeping my baby close to my body from newborn for as long as possible was the best way to introduce him to the world."
Now, ERGOBaby carriers are distributed in 40 countries.
"For many years we have wanted to help provide our carriers to families with a special needs child in an effort to help support the child's development and the family," said Frost, who credits her father, Robert, with the idea.
Imua Family Services helps children achieve their full potential. It serves more than 2,450 people on Maui and Lanai through its Infant & Child Development, Early Childhood Development, Newborn Hearing Screening and Camp Imua programs.
