WAILUKU - A 42-year-old Kihei man was sentenced Tuesday to one year in jail and five years' probation for stealing two paint sprayers in 2008.
Second Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza ordered Edison Y. Santiago to pay $1,478 in restitution.
Santiago was also given credit for time served. He pleaded no contest to second-degree theft.
Santiago thanked Cardoza for giving him a "last chance" by sentencing him in accordance with a plea agreement.
Cardoza said Santiago should show his gratitude by working on resolving his problems with substance abuse.
According to court records, Santiago stole the paint sprayers from a Pacific Painting & Refinishing job site on June 20, 2008.
On Tuesday, Santiago was also resentenced to a new five-year probation term and 82 days in jail for violating his probation in a 2006 case.
He violated his probation when he committed the theft in 2008.
In the 2006 case, Santiago pleaded no contest to third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts relating to drug paraphernalia.
He will serve the terms of the two sentences concurrently.
