Throwdowns: moving full speed ahead

September 10, 2009
The Maui News

Cars packed the parking lot and flowed onto the street, fans huddled in line and crowds swarmed the stage as local indie rock band The Throwdowns got the party started Aug. 28 at Mulligan's on the Blue in Wailea.

The madness was all part of the band's CD release party for its "Don't Slow Down" album. Featuring classic pop songwriting chops and a steady flow of dance beats, the debut recording showcases the band's unique sound and high-energy vibes.

Opening the concert was Lahaina DJ N8 Castro, along with Maui songstress Anuhea. Other surprises of the evening included reggae ambassador Marty Dread who made an appearance on The Throwdowns' song "Redemption on the Dancefloor." Besides the live concert, the massive all-ages crowd was treated to complimentary copies of the album.
