HONOLULU (AP) - New University of Hawaii President M.R.C. Greenwood said in these unprecedented times, the university must demonstrate it is a powerful agent for economic improvement.
In her first address to the university community, Greenwood said Tuesday that there is no better investment for the future of the state than in education and the university. She said the university system must graduate more students with the credentials needed to excel in jobs in today's as well as tomorrow's marketplace.
As the only public higher education institution in the state, Greenwood said it also is up to the university to lead Hawaii's economic, intellectual and creative diversification and to work with businesses to create jobs for island residents.
