Crash claims third life

WAILUKU The third occupant of a car that crashed Wednesday in Waihee has died.

Jared Kalamaku Kana, 17, was the brother of the driver, Nailima Kana, 20.

Nailima Kana died the night of the crash on Kahekili Highway. His front-seat passenger, Tyson Latham, 20, died Thursday.

Maui police reported Sunday that Jared Kana died at Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he had been in critical condition for four days.

All three were Waihee residents.

The three deaths brought the road toll for the year in the county to 17, compared with 14 at this time last year.
