LANAI CITY --- The Seabury Hall girls volleyball team defeated Lanai 26-24, 25-9, 23-25, 26-24 on Saturday night to finish second in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II standings and earn a spot in the state tournament.

''The girls played great, and we're going to follow up this game with some more work,'' said Spartans coach Scottie Zucco, whose team went 12-2 in the regular season, losing only to undefeated Molokai.

''I give a lot of credit to Lanai,'' Zucco said. ''They put forth an extremely valiant effort.''

Zucco praised the play of Seabury's three seniors.

''Keana Cramer came up with several key kills,'' he said. ''She came up with a lot of timely kills. That comes in part with delivering great sets.

''Kanani Santos did a wonderful job attacking the line. Janea Yamagata-Lopez, she was all over the place as a libero. A couple of weeks ago, it was apparent she wanted to take her game to the next level, and it's apparent that she has.''

The state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 28-31 on Oahu.

''We've got about 10 days before we leave for states and we have to clear up a lot before states,'' Zucco said. ''We're going to come out on the other side better than we went in.''

Lanai finished the season 10-4. A victory on Saturday would have created a tie for second place and forced a one-match playoff this week.

''The end isn't exactly what we wanted, but overall, to go 10-4 in a season playing against Molokai and Seabury Hall, that's pretty good,'' said Pine Lasses coach Norraine Pascua.

April Mirafuentes had 13 assists for Lanai. Mirafuentes, who normally shares setting duties with Sharon Bulaoat, got the bulk of the work because Bulaoat suffered a knee injury during the Pine Lasses' loss to the Spartans on Friday.

Anela Granito-Wallace had 14 kills, 13 digs and three blocks for Lanai, and Sandi Rabaca had four kills.
