Man arrested in connection with drug-trafficking probe
LAHAINA - A 40-year-old Lahaina man was arrested when police seized $540,000 worth of cocaine in an investigation into a drug-trafficking organization suspected of importing cocaine into Maui County, police said.
The Maui Police Department Vice Division investigation started when police received information about suspicious parcels being shipped to Maui from California over the past few years, according to police.
Police obtained a search warrant for one parcel, recovering approximately 1 pound and 3 ounces of powdered cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia.
Police also searched the suspect's vehicle, finding about 7 grams of processed marijuana and 0.7 gram of hashish.
Following his arrest late last month, the man was released pending further investigation of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promotion of detrimental and harmful drugs and three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.
Police said the estimated street value of the cocaine is $540,000, based on a rate of $100 per gram.
The case is being sent to the Maui County prosecutor's office for review.
