Weather ‘hanging around,’ rain likely

POSTED: November 14, 2009

WAILUKU - A large weather system that's been bringing rain, thunderstorms and high surf to the islands is starting to move on - but it's not in any hurry to go.

The National Weather Service continued a flash flood watch through 6 a.m. today, as the slow-moving storm lingered near the islands, keeping conditions in place for periods of heavy rain and potential thunderstorms.

"It's kind of hanging around, a little west of the state," said NWS forecaster Victor DeJesus on Friday afternoon. "The elements are still in place for (flash flood) potential."

A high-surf advisory was also continued through 6 a.m. today.

DeJesus said trade winds would start to return in the next few days, although wetter-than-normal weather would continue over the weekend and into next week, especially in windward areas.

"It should be on the mend," he said.
