Free Furlough Friday program at Kihei school

POSTED: November 16, 2009

KIHEI - A free Furlough Friday program for South Maui students in grades K to 5 will begin Friday.

The program will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kihei Elementary School throughout the furlough days this year and next.

The new program, Kihei Community Keiki Club, is volunteer-run and free to parents with involvement. Parents can choose to either volunteer time or donate a healthful snack or even offer a relative, friend or colleague to volunteer.

The program will include enrichment activities not available in the usual school program, according to a release. Those activities include: field games, music, art and career days. Children of public and charter schools and those who are home schooled are welcomed.

Community volunteers are also welcomed. Volunteer hours are between 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

For more information, contact Kihei School PTA President Bridget Bunting by phone at 276-4116 or e-mail at kiheipta@aol.com or child and family therapist Netra Halperin by phone at 359-1673 or by e-mail at netra@maui08.com.
