$150K bail for man with drugs sleeping in preschool yard
LAHAINA - Bail was set at $150,000 for a homeless man who was arrested with drugs when Lahaina patrol officers investigated a report that vagrants were sleeping in a preschool playground last week, police said.
Randy Sanders, 44, was sleeping in the courtyard of the preschool at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church on Front Street when officers arrived at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, police said.
A pill box was among his belongings on the ground nearby, according to police.
After he gave police permission to search his belongings, officers discovered syringes filled with morphine sulfate, morphine pills, butal bital caffeine tablets, Valium tablets, a baggie containing 1.77 grams of marijuana and used hypodermic needles, according to police.
Sanders was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing, first- and second-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, promoting a controlled substance near a school, three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and third- and fourth-degree promotion of harmful drugs.
